In this "holiday season", I find myself attempting to become entrenched in the Christmas spirit. I love Christmas. I love everything about Christmas-- from its deep spiritual tie into my life, to the broad senseless commercialism that retailers have created. Some choose to celebrate by blowing all their money, I believe that Christ is the center of the holiday and that all Christmas sales are F.P.U. approved.
Anywho, Chip Davis from Mannheim Steamroller does a segment on the radio during this time of year, and I thought it was worth sharing. For years I heard churches comment that "we have taken the Christ out of Christmas" (That's why they spell it with an X). Here is Chip's comment on this statement.

In short, X Mas comes from the 12th Century Greeks, and the "X" represents the 22nd letter of the Greek alphabet, which happens to be the first letter in their word for Christ. Although I like the analogy of "taking the Christ out of Christmas," I also enjoy the fact that non-Christians, who add the X to try to upset Christians, are merely re-stating what we are already cognisant of... You can't take Christ out of Christmas!
Take that, Atheists!
